Semaglutide is a long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA) with a structure that shares 94% amino acid sequence homology with natural human glucagon-like peptide-1. As the sixth GLP-1RA drug to be marketed and the third once-weekly long-acting dosage form, it is primarily used for blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes and for long-term weight management.
